Pawpaw's Surprise Retirement Party

We went to Huntington, WV to celebrate my Paw paw retiring. We had a lot of fun and got to spend some much needed time with family we don't see often. I hadn't been there in five years and boy has everyone changed. It was a lot of fun catching up with everyone and meeting some new people. Maw maw had planned a retirement party for Paw paw but he thought immediately family was just coming over for dinner because we were in town. Maw maw cooked for two days straight and we had a turn out of about 25-30 people. It was nice.
I went with my parents and my Sister and her son Daniel. Going anywhere with Daniel is always an interesting trip for sure. He is 4 years old so it was tricky trying to keep him happy for the entire trip there and home. I tell you four year old's sure are moody! ;) On the way there Daniel was so excited to be going he hadn't had a nap all day and was just wired. We left around 11:00am and he couldn't wait to see the tunnels that we would go through. We got stuck in traffic several times and by the time we got to the tunnels Daniel was asleep. Any of you who have kids know it is just better to let them sleep...LOL So when he finally woke up we were somewhere in WV and he wasn't really all that happy that he had missed the tunnels. Luckily we stopped at a rest stop that had this nice water feature with a mini Vietnam Memorial Wall. It was very nice and Daniel loved that he could play in the water a little bit. We got up on the outer wall...not the memorial part...and the pic below is what Daniel decided to do when I told him to look at the camera... I tell you where do kids get this stuff.
We left on Thursday and the party wasn't til Saturday. So Friday was a free day where we went to the mall for a couple of hours and then back to Maw maw and pawpaw's for the afternoon. Saturday morning we went to "downtown Huntington" which they call something like Pullman Square (I think). We didn't know until we got there but they were having the annual Hot Dog Festival. We had so much fun and enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there. They had all kinds of hot dogs and they had tons of dogs there. There was a Dog parade, a dog costume contest, and a wiener dog race...LOL It was as funny as it sounds. There were dogs dressed up as everything you can imagine... I remember a pug in a ballerina outfit, a little boy and his dog both dressed up at batman, and the most strange idea was a little girl dressed up as a toilet and her dog as the toilet paper? Yeah that was interesting. I did get a pic of this cute pink poodle though...
Daniel had a lot of fun. Actually Daniel probably had the most fun. When we first got there Maw maw and Paw paw had a huge box of toys they had wrapped up for Daniel. It was literally like Christmas in July. He loved all of them and played with them the whole time. Uncle Doug and Daniel had so much fun together. Uncle Doug picked on Daniel and played with him constantly. Regina and I got to know our cousin Kayla a little better. Since it has been five years since we've been there Kayla was 8 years old the last time we saw her. We had fun sitting on the porch watching everyone and trying to stay in the background. Most of the people who came on Saturday we didn't really know so we just kinda stayed out of the way and let Paw paw socialize with his guest. We had a lot of fun although we didn't do much and the trip went much better than I thought it would have. I only wish Aaron would have been there with me. Everything is so much better when he is there.
